What you should know

With eight robust layers, the DreamCloud Hybrid boasts high-quality materials, providing comfort, support, and durability. The memory foam layers offer pressure relief in the joints, while the innerspring coils help maintain proper spinal alignment for most.

  • We think this mattress feels firm enough to maintain proper alignment when sleeping on your back yet soft enough to prevent pressure buildup in your hips and shoulders when lying on your side.
  • While the standard price of $1,483 already offers excellent value, this mattress is on sale for $665 more often than not.
  • The breathable cover, gel foam, and airy coils help prevent excess heat buildup, making it an excellent choice for hot sleepers.
  • The cashmere cover offers a plush feel, but the mattress is still responsive enough to allow for effortless position changes for combination sleepers.

DreamCloud Hybrid overview

The DreamCloud Hybrid offers a 12-inch profile layered with high-quality materials that add durability, comfort, and support. It’s considered a luxury hybrid mattress but doesn’t have a high-end price tag like many competitors.

Although it only comes in one firmness option, its balanced feel appeals to many sleep styles and body types. It’s a bed-in-a-box, meaning it’s rolled up tightly, packaged, and delivered to your doorstep. While this adds convenience, it may also leave some shoppers questioning how good of a mattress it truly is. However, our experience proved that doesn’t stop it from delivering an excellent sleep experience.

Cost

The DreamCloud Hybrid stands out in terms of cost. We found that the best hybrid mattresses typically cost between $1,200 and $2,500 for a queen-sized one. At full price, this mattress lands near the more affordable end of that spectrum at $1,483. Even better, DreamCloud frequently offers significant discounts that can drop the mattress to as low as $665 during major sales events. We recommend following our guide to the best time to buy a mattress to help you find the best deal.

Mattress construction

With contouring memory foam layers and thick innerspring coils, The DreamCloud blends two essential mattress materials to give sleepers the best of both worlds. The subtle cooling properties throughout help regulate body temperature so sleepers can rest comfortably. We’ll break down each layer below to help you understand exactly what you’re sleeping on if you choose this bed.

Cover: The cashmere cover creates a mattress surface that looks and feels luxurious. The soft material is breathable and moisture-resistant, helping to keep you cool and dry.

Comfort layers: Below the surface, we found a trifecta of CertiPUR-US® foams, as the company claims, with two gel-infused layers sandwiching a supportive layer. (1) The company claims these foams potentially provide gentle cushioning and exceptional pressure relief as the mattress hugs the body. Moreover, the gel particles help dissipate heat for a cooling effect, a welcome change from traditional memory foam, which is known for retaining heat.

Transition layer: This final foam layer offers support, helping maintain spinal alignment and likely ensuring you don’t sink excessively into the mattress. It distributes your weight evenly, which may provide a smooth transition from the comfort layers to the supportive layers below by reducing pressure points and preventing you from feeling the coils.

Support layer: The innerspring coil layer provides the bulk of the support and a bit of bounce. These individually encased coils move independently from one another, allowing them to adapt to your body’s unique shape and reduce motion transfer across the bed. The open structure also promotes airflow to help the mattress breathe and release excess heat.

Stability base layer: DreamCloud adds a final high-density foam layer below the springs, supporting overall construction and functionality. This creates a solid foundation that helps all the layers above stay in place and perform as they should.

Firmness

We test each mattress we review for how soft or firm it feels, giving it a numeric rating on a scale from one to 10. For this metric, the higher the number, the firmer the feel. While this can help give you a ballpark for the mattress’s firmness, it’s critical to remember that this is a subjective category, so you may experience a mattress differently than our testers. Several factors, including preferred sleep position and body type, can impact how it feels for you.

After spending time in various sleep positions, our testing team rated the DreamCloud Hybrid 6.5 out of 10. Based on industry standards, that indicates a medium-firm feel. We could feel the pressure-relieving qualities of the memory foam while still feeling adequately supported.

Light and average-weight side and back sleepers should find this mattress plenty comfortable. However, it will likely feel too soft for heavier sleepers (250+ pounds) in any sleep position. For those folks, we recommend a firmer mattress, like one from our list of the best mattresses for heavy people

Mattress performance

Throughout our evaluation, we test every mattress against the same performance criteria, going beyond what it’s made of and how firm it feels. The valuable objective and subjective data we gather in categories like pressure relief, support, and cooling helps us make more informed recommendations. Below, I’ve included our experience with the DreamCloud Hybrid in different areas.

Pressure relief and support

When a mattress balances pressure relief and support well, it can create the optimal sleeping environment, helping to reduce pain and keep sleepers comfortable.

One key factor we look for in support is how well the spine stays aligned, as this can be critical for preventing discomfort and improving sleep quality. (2) Our testers felt well-supported on the DreamCloud Hybrid, noting that their bodies stayed lifted and well-aligned when lying on their back and sides. Unfortunately, stomach sleepers may not get the support they need to prevent their hips from sinking. We’d recommend a firmer mattress if you spend most of the night in this position.

When discussing pressure relief, we refer to how well a mattress prevents tension buildup in critical areas like the lower back, shoulders, and hips. While our testers provide valuable input from their experience in each position, we also evaluate this category using a pressure map.

For pressure map results, we lie on a specialized mat that records the amount of force the body exerts on the mattress. The mat creates a color-coded map, where blue and green areas indicate little to no pressure buildup, and orange and red areas demonstrate high-pressure areas.

The all-blue results when back sleeping revealed that the DreamCloud Hybrid is exceptional at relieving pressure in the lumbar area, which aligns with our tester’s notes. “It feels comfortable. I don’t feel any pressure buildup,” says Anna Credle, mattress reviewer. We also saw similar results when side sleeping with excellent shoulder and hip tension relief.

Cooling

Another vital component potentially impacting sleep quality regulation of body temperature. (3) Thanks to the breathable cover, open coil structure, and gel-infused foam, we couldn’t feel any heat building below us when lying on the bed. Moreover, our thermal gun revealed a minimal 8.6-degree increase after five minutes, demonstrating good cooling qualities. If you typically sleep hot, we think you’ll find this mattress helps keep you cool.

Motion Isolation

If you share your bed with a partner, child, or pet, you may want to pay particular attention to how well a mattress isolates motion. A mattress that eliminates motion transfer can help reduce how often you’re disturbed by a restless bed partner.

We ran a few different tests to help gauge how well each mattress isolates motion. In the first two tests, we placed a glass of water on the bed and observed how much the water was disturbed when we dropped a weighted ball. Then, we monitored the water movement again while one person got in and out of bed and changed positions. In both instances, we saw minor changes in the water glasses.

In our final test, we dropped a 15-pound dumbbell from three different heights—4 inches, 8 inches, and 12 inches—to see how well it isolates small, medium, and large movements. We graphed the results using a seismograph, which revealed minimal vibrations at the two lower heights and slightly more from the highest point.

With all of this in mind, we gave DreamCloud a good rating for motion isolation, making it a solid mattress for couples.

Responsiveness

When a mattress is responsive, it can make it easier to change positions and move around. This can benefit combination sleepers and intimate partners who want to move around easily during sex. Our testers noted that even though the surface felt plush, they didn’t feel stuck in the mattress and could change positions relatively effortlessly. Additional tests, including dropping a dumbbell to assess bounce and observing how well the mattress springs back after placing weight on it, confirmed that DreamCloud offers decent responsiveness.

Edge Support

We also measure how well a bed maintains support when sitting or lying near the edge. Strong support can make getting in and out of bed easier and ensure you can spread out across the entire mattress width when sleeping. We found this mattress held up well and prevented us from feeling like we would slip out of bed if we laid too close to the edge. Additionally, a 15-pound dumbbell placed near the edge caused the mattress to sink less than an inch and a half, which is excellent.

What customers are saying

You can purchase the mattress directly from DreamCloud or find it listed on Amazon. It’s a popular choice among buyers, earning 4.2 out of five stars after more than 1,800 reviews. Happy customers mention the mattress’s comfort, support, and value as top highlights.

Sarah G. is a verified Amazon customer who says, “Wow! This mattress is incredible! When I moved in with my boyfriend years ago, he had some old king-sized mattress someone had given him. After trying toppers, having a few children, and our backs hurting constantly, I decided it was time for a new bed. I researched and decided on the 14-inch Classic Hybrid, and I’m so glad we did! I sleep soundly all night. Our backs do not hurt as much anymore (we are 37 and 40 years old), and we are overall very happy with this purchase. It took no time to expand and didn’t have a smell at all.”

Amazon customer Sie has experienced less discomfort since purchasing this mattress:

“My hips were in pain from my last mattress, but I have no complaints with this one. I sleep comfortably every night. I tell everyone to invest in this mattress.”

”Sie,” Amazon

While the mattress performed well for edge support during our testing, some reviewers disagree. For example, Mike D. writes in their Amazon review, “I did a lot of online research, and most users rated this mattress very highly. I have been sleeping on it for a couple of weeks now, and I have to say it is very comfortable. It’s not too soft and not too hard. I think they’ve found the sweet spot as far as firmness goes. My one real issue with this mattress is the lack of good edge support. When I roll over and get close to the edge of the bed, I can feel it slopping downward. It makes me feel like I might roll off, even though it hasn’t actually happened. If you like sitting on the edge of your bed when getting dressed like I do, you will dislike the edge support. The mattress just sinks; if I’m not careful, I will slide right off it.”

Who DreamCloud Hybrid is recommended for:

Considering the mattress’s feel and performance, I want to provide our top recommendations for who this mattress might be suitable for.

  • After demonstrating no pressure buildup in the lower back and maintaining proper spinal alignment, we feel this mattress is an exceptional choice for back sleepers.
  • The softness can also appeal to side sleepers looking for good pressure relief around the hips and shoulders.
  • I think couples will get a lot out of this mattress, which has a balanced firmness that suits many sleep styles, excellent motion isolation, and good responsiveness.
  • Finally, hot sleepers might enjoy staying cool throughout the night as its cooling properties effectively regulate body temperature.

Who DreamCloud Hybrid is not recommended for:

The DreamCloud Hybrid has some incredible qualities, but it’s not going to work for everyone.

  • I think strict stomach sleepers will need to find a firmer mattress that can keep their hips lifted to help prevent lower back pain.
  • Heavier sleepers may also benefit from additional support offered by a firmer mattress, which can help prevent excessive sinking and early mattress breakdown. (4)

Expert opinion

We collaborated with Fortune Recommends™ Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, to provide valuable insight into why mattresses like the DreamCloud Hybrid are a solid choice. Dr. Raj specializes in sleep medicine and is an active clinical researcher with over 20 years of experience.

Dr. Raj describes mattresses with a hybrid construction as the “superhero of sleep comfort” since they provide the best of both worlds. “A hybrid mattress is a special kind that combines the support of traditional springs with the comfort of modern foam,” he says. “It aims to balance firmness and softness, making it suitable for various sleep preferences.”

He confirms the medium-firm feel, like that of the DreamCloud, can be ideal for many individuals to help alleviate back pain, saying, “An overly soft mattress may lead to poor spinal alignment and lack of support, contributing to back discomfort. A medium-firm mattress is often best, as it maintains proper spine curvature, distributes weight evenly, and reduces pressure points.”

Finally, Dr. Raj shares that the good motion isolation performance we saw in the DreamCloud strongly indicates the mattress’s quality. “A mattress with good motion isolation provides undisturbed sleep, comfort for couples, personalized support, and pressure relief. It offers versatility, a quiet sleep environment, longevity, and minimized partner disturbance. Furthermore, it indicates material quality, construction, and overall comfort.”

Warranties and policies

Warranty

DreamCloud offers an extended Forever Warranty™, stating that it’s confident in the mattress’s construction and quality, ensuring it will last through long-term use. The warranty covers defects in construction, materials, or quality. The company will replace or repair the mattress for free if you find any physical flaws or manufacturing defects. Additionally, if it develops impressions that are one and a half inches or more during normal use, the mattress is considered defective and covered by the warranty.

For the first 10 years, DreamCloud will replace your mattress with a brand-new mattress of equal or greater value for free. After you’ve surpassed that timeframe, it’s at DreamCloud’s discretion to repair, re-cover, or replace the mattress. You’ll be charged $100 initially for roundtrip transportation costs, but that fee is waived once a defect is confirmed.

It’s important to note that you must be the original purchaser and verify the mattress has been used on a firm, solid surface for its entire use for the warranty to apply. We recommend thoroughly reading the warranty policy to understand what else may lead to a voided warranty.

Trial period

DreamCloud keeps the generosity going with its year-long sleep trial. Once your mattress is delivered, you’ll have an entire 365 nights to try it. If you decide at any point during that timeframe that the mattress isn’t right for you, DreamCloud will work with you to donate or dispose of it locally. However, you are encouraged to try it for at least 30 nights before deciding since it can take a few weeks for your body to adjust to a new mattress.

Shipping and returns

Free shipping and returns are additional excellent perks offered by DreamCloud. In-stock items ship within one to two business days and arrive two to five days after that, meaning you can have your mattress at your doorstep within a week.

Note that free shipping is limited to the contiguous United States. You’ll be charged $250 per large shipped item if you live in Hawaii or Alaska. Unfortunately, the company does not offer shipping to U.S. territories like Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, or Guam.

DreamCloud also offers an optional premium in-home setup. This service costs $199 for up to two items, with additional items costing $49 each. You even have the option to have your old mattress removed simultaneously. This is all done through a third-party provider who contacts you to schedule a delivery date and time that works for you. When using this service, you can expect it to take about a day or two longer to get your mattress.

Hybrid vs. Premier Hybrid

The DreamCloud Premier Hybrid is a luxury upgrade from the classic Hybrid model. It boasts extra memory foam but still offers a similar medium-firm feel.

  • Cost: The standard price is $2,076, but like the classic Hybrid, it can often be found at a deep discount, down to $949.
  • Materials: The Premier Hybrid features all the same high-quality materials, with one extra inch of gel-infused therapeutic foam.
  • Comfort and support: The mattress offered similar support with an on-top-of-the-bed feel. The extra adaptive foam helped relieve tension in the lower back region. However, we were surprised to note more pressure buildup in the shoulders, which could be problematic for strict side sleepers.
  • Cooling: The Premier Hybrid scored slightly lower in the cooling category, likely because it has more memory foam.

We recommend the Premier Hybrid for:

  • Back sleepers: We feel sleepers who prefer spending most of the night on their back will find plenty of comfort and support through the lumbar area.
  • Combination sleepers: If you switch positions frequently, this mattress’s responsive nature may allow you to do so easily without interrupting your sleep.
  • Heavy back and side sleepers: Because some heavier sleepers may perceive mattresses as softer, we feel they could get the pressure relief and support they need from this mattress when back or side sleeping. (5)

Hybrid vs. Premier Rest Hybrid

DreamCloud takes another step up in its luxury line with the Premier Rest Hybrid. With a two-inch higher profile, this is the thickest of the three hybrid mattresses.

  • Cost: The Premier Rest Hybrid’s price tag is $2,076, barely more than the Premier Hybrid’s.
  • Materials: This mattress’s extra height comes from a total of six inches of memory foam between the comfort foam layers and the transition foam. The support system remains the same as the previous models, with eight-inch innerspring coils.
  • Comfort and support: A deluxe quilted Euro Top creates a plushness that we didn’t feel in either of the previous models, providing a lavish experience. Meanwhile, the identical pocketed coils maintain solid support to help align the spine.
  • Cooling: Most of the added memory foam is gel-infused, which helps with the cooling abilities. It may not be as cool as the classic Hybrid, but it still performs decently in this area.

We recommend the Premier Rest for:

  • Side sleepers: This mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers due to the added pressure relief that helps hug the shoulders and hips.
  • Back sleepers: The contouring foams and supportive coils maintain enough support through the lower back to keep back sleepers comfortable.
  • Average and lightweight sleepers: Because of the softer feel of this mattress, we feel it’d be most suitable for average and lightweight sleepers.

Hybrid vs. Memory Foam

With its Memory Foam model, DreamCloud caters to those who prefer the feel of an all-foam mattress. It provides a firmer feel with exceptional motion isolation and edge support.

  • Cost: This mattress costs $1,387, making it even more affordable than the classic Hybrid.
  • Materials: We found five layers of memory foam under the cashmere cover. The upper layers are most gel-infused foams combined with one supportive foam layer. Below that lies a thick, eight-inch foam base layer.
  • Comfort and support: We rated this mattress slightly firmer than the hybrid models, giving it a 7.5 out of 10. It keeps you well-supported on top of the bed. The pressure relief through the lower back is exceptional, and the supportive foams helped maintain proper spinal alignment.
  • Cooling: Multiple layers of gel-infused foam help prevent heat buildup throughout the mattress. However, it is still an all-foam mattress, so it doesn’t sleep as cool as its hybrid counterparts.

We recommend the Premier Rest for:

  • Back sleepers: The quilted cover adds a touch of plushness that helps prevent pressure buildup, while the supportive foams help keep the back lifted and aligned.
  • Stomach sleepers: The firmer feel should prevent the hips from sinking when lying on your stomach, making it a solid option for average and lightweight stomach sleepers.
  • Heavy back sleepers: This mattress could be a good fit for heavy sleepers who prefer a mattress without springs. Its firmer feel should provide enough support to maintain a neutral spine.

DreamCloud Hybrid vs. competitors

If the DreamCloud Hybrid doesn’t check all the boxes on your mattress must-haves list, there are plenty of excellent alternatives. The Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress that excels at reducing chronic joint and back pain, offering various firmness options to accommodate all sleep positions. If you’re looking for a softer mattress, the Helix Midnight provides a medium firmness that earns high praise among side sleepers who love its cozy, cloud-like feel.

While some of DreamCloud’s other models can be suitable for heavier individuals, the brand doesn’t have a specific mattress for plus-sized individuals. Instead, we recommend The WinkBed, which has four firmness options, including a Plus model explicitly designed for individuals over 250 pounds. Finally, for those who long for memory foam’s traditional slow, sinking feel, we encourage choosing the Nectar Classic Memory Foam.

FAQs

Does DreamCloud have fiberglass?

After speaking with DreamCloud’s support team, they assured us the Hybrid model does not contain fiberglass. Instead, it’s constructed with a fire sock made from other fire-retardant materials that encapsulate the mattress in the event of a fire to stop the spread. The company did note that previous models could contain glass fibers, but it changed all current models to help reduce materials that pose potential health risks in its mattresses. (6)

How long does a DreamCloud mattress last?

With its high-quality, durable materials, the DreamCloud should easily last the standard seven to 10-year lifespan expected of most mattresses. (7) DreamCloud also demonstrates its confidence in this by offering a lifetime warranty covering its mattresses against normal use damage for however long you own them.

Is the DreamCloud hybrid mattress good for back pain?

The DreamCloud Hybrid’s medium-firm feel offers optimal pressure relief and support that may help support your body’s natural shape, keep the spine aligned, and reduce back pain. (8, 9) However, sleep position is also critical in potentially reducing pain and discomfort. (10) You should consider your preferred sleep style to ensure you choose a mattress that supports your body well in that position.
