Construction
Euro pillow top
The mattress starts with a 3-inch Euro pillow top and an organic cotton cover, which feels soft and airy. All three firmness options have the same construction—the only thing that changes is the comfort level of the pillow top. The Plush pillow top is designed to offer deeper body contouring, while the Firm has more of an ‘on top of the bed’ feel—we found the Luxury Firm pillow top to be plush and comfortable, offering gentle contouring. It features a high-density memory foam lumbar crown that’s designed to help keep the hips lifted and the spine in healthy alignment. It’s also been treated with Guardin™, Saatva’s exclusive botanical antimicrobial treatment that reduces the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria.
Innerspring support unit
The support unit features individually pocketed 14.5-gauge recycled steel coils designed to cradle the body and minimize motion transfer, although we don’t think they do a great job at the latter (more on that later). Stronger coils sit in the center third of the bed to improve lumbar support, which is also enhanced by a patented Lumbar Zone® active spinal wire beneath it.
Coil support base
The support base is a second coil unit made of 13-gauge tempered steel coils. This durable layer helps support the rest of the bed and offers durability, preventing sagging over time. The large number of coils in this mattress allows for airflow, helping to keep the mattress cool.
High-density foam rails
High-density foam rails around the entire perimeter of the bed strengthen the sides, offering sturdy edge support.
Support
Our reviewers were impressed with the support offered by the Saatva Classic Luxury Firm. Beds with a higher coil count are better at evenly distributing body weight, and the Saatva Classic excels at this with 884 coils in the main innerspring unit of its queen-size model.
It also has multiple lumbar support features designed to lift your hips in healthy alignment with your spine, which should help avoid back pain. (2) Lumbar support is provided by the memory foam lumbar crown beneath the pillow top, stronger coils in the center third of the upper coil support unit, and a Lumbar Zone® active spinal wire between the two coil units. That’s right; there are two coil units; one acts as the support layer, and the other as the base layer. The base layer offers support for the rest of the bed, with tempered steel coils that are designed to be durable and prevent the bed from sagging over time.
Our testers think this bed’s sturdy support system is suitable for most sleepers and sleeping positions. However, the Luxury Firm model may not be strong enough for heavyweight sleepers, who might need the Firm option to keep their body in alignment. Lightweight sleepers will likely experience this bed as more of a firm feel, so if that doesn’t float your boat, you may be better off on the Plush model, which should feel softer.
Pressure relief
The ideal mattress for your body type and sleeping style will evenly distribute your body weight to avoid too much pressure in one area, which can lead to discomfort and pain. This is linked to the type and amount of cushioning on the mattress and the support system—if there’s not enough lumbar support, you might find your hips sinking out of alignment, potentially experiencing pressure buildup in that area.
Our product testers report that the 3-inch Euro pillow top on the Luxury Firm model offered just the right amount of sinkage to contour the body gently, and it scored well on our pressure map tests. However, we did notice slight pressure buildup around the shoulders, hips, and knees when side sleeping, so dedicated side sleepers might prefer a mattress with more cushioning or perhaps the Plush Saatva Classic model, which offers more body contouring.
Responsiveness
The dual-coil system on this innerspring makes for an incredibly bouncy mattress, allowing you to move around easily; you shouldn’t feel stuck in this bed. This is likely great for people with mobility problems, combination sleepers, and couples who like a bouncy mattress for sex.
Motion isolation
The support layer’s individually pocketed recycled steel coils are designed to respond to your movements and prevent motion transfer. Unfortunately, we don’t think this bed performs well in this area. Innerspring beds are traditionally very bouncy, and the Saatva Classic certainly excels in responsiveness, but this can be felt across the bed, which may be a disadvantage for couples. If you sleep light and have a restless partner, you’ll likely feel disturbed by their movements on this mattress.
Edge support
Edge support is fantastic on the Saatva Classic; our product testers say this is some of the best edge support they’ve ever seen. Sturdy coils coupled with a high-density foam rail around the sides of the bed make for a strong perimeter, which allows you to sit on the edge of the bed securely—great news for those with mobility problems. Our testers also found they could sleep close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like they would roll off, which is ideal for some couples who want to use the whole surface area of the bed.
Cooling
The Saatva Classic sleeps cool, which is great for couples and those who tend to overheat at night. The dual-coil system and relatively shallow comfort layer allow for a huge amount of airflow, allowing body heat to escape and fresh air to come in. The organic cotton cover on the pillow top is also breathable, and while we didn’t find it cool to the touch, it felt comfortable and airy. Overall, we think this could be a good choice for those who usually sleep hot.
Performance for couples
Aside from the poor motion isolation, we think this bed is a great pick for co-sleepers. The responsive surface makes it great for sex, and the medium-firm feel of the Luxury Firm model is versatile enough to suit most sleepers, making it great for couples with different body weights and sleeping styles. Plus, the fantastic edge support gives couples more room as they can use the entire bed’s surface area. The mattress’s cooling features should also benefit people who heat up when an extra body is in the bed.
Eco-friendly features
Shoppers looking to lessen their environmental impact might be pleased to hear that Saatva has taken a few eco-friendly measures with the Saatva Classic, like using recycled steel coils in the first coil layer and organic cotton in the pillow top cover. Organic cotton is potentially better for the environment than regular cotton as it can require less water to produce, and growers aren’t allowed to use harmful pesticides linked to environmental and health problems. (3) Cotton is generally more eco-friendly than synthetic fabrics like polyester, as cotton is biodegradable, whereas polyester isn’t. Polyester also sheds microplastics, which are likely harmful to the environment. (4)
Additionally, Saatva uses its exclusive Guardin™ botanical antimicrobial treatment on all its mattresses, which the company states is made from food-safe essential oils and minerals rather than toxic chemicals. (5)
Mattresses sold in the U.S. must pass strict fire safety tests, so many mattress manufacturers potentially use cheap chemical or fiberglass flame retardants in their products. (6) However, there are growing concerns about the health risks of these retardants, with research linking some chemical retardants to an increased risk of preterm birth, stunted child development, and thyroid issues, including thyroid cancer. (7, 8, 9) Fiberglass irritates the skin, eyes, and respiratory system if it enters the environment. (10) Thankfully, Saatva states they avoid these risks by using a (mostly) natural fire retardant made from non-toxic thistle pulp bonded with a small amount of polyester.
This mattress is GREENGUARD Gold certified, which means it’s passed safety standards regarding the amount of chemicals released into the air during use. The foams in the mattress are CertiPUR-US® certified and guaranteed to release only a safe amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can have negative health consequences at high levels. Price
At $2,095 for a queen, this certainly isn’t the cheapest innerspring on the market, but it’s not built like a cheap innerspring. This luxury mattress offers good value with premium materials, a durable design built to last, and a lifetime warranty.

Saatva has a rating of 4.7 stars on Trustpilot, based on 1,209 reviews. Many buyers speak highly of Saatva’s customer service, mentioning knowledgeable and helpful staff and swift deliveries and refunds.
Trustpilot reviewer “MikalL” recently posted about their positive experience when exchanging a mattress with Saatva, writing:
“Throughout the entire process, we dealt with the most customer-friendly individuals of any purchase we have made in our 47 years of marriage! They were all extremely courteous and genuinely interested in our total satisfaction.”

However, while the majority of reviews are positive regarding customer service, a few mention delayed deliveries and poor communication.
Trustpilot user Jean Francois Leon tells of his recent experience having a Saatva mattress delivered, which was rescheduled from June 14 to June 18. “When we called Saatva for an explanation, we were told it was the delivery company’s fault and that it was out of their hands,” he writes. “When we called the delivery company, they told us Saatva rescheduled it and it was not their fault… go figure. On the 18th, we were told the delivery would be between noon and 4 pm. The mattress was not delivered as of 9 pm, and nobody called to inform us what was happening. This shows a total lack of professionalism and a very stressful experience for us.”
When it comes to the Saatva Classic itself, most buyers are happy with their purchase. Many say that their sleep quality has improved and back pain has reduced since sleeping on the mattress. KJ Montez writes: “My husband and I have the Luxury Firm Classic and have been sleeping on it for about a month, and OMG, this mattress is amazing! We had aches and pains with our other mattress, and now they are gone!”
Trustpilot user Kay Lambert has owned a Saatva Classic for almost four years and still loves it, commenting: “No body indentations, perfect firmness/softness balance, and the three family/friends we’ve referred love theirs too! After trying four other mattresses in 20 years, including ridiculously expensive brands, we are thrilled with our Saatva!”
However, the versatile mattress isn’t for everyone, with reviewers offering differing options on comfort. One user, Lindsay, was disappointed in the Saatva Classic’s motion transfer and says it’s unsuitable for side sleepers with body pain. “I wanted to like this mattress, but as a side sleeper with fibromyalgia, even the Plush is too firm for me,” she writes. “I end up tossing and turning with aching joints. Even a gel foam mattress topper doesn’t relieve the pressure on my joints. There’s also more motion transfer than I like because the base coil unit is one big connected piece.”

Who Saatva Classic is recommended for:
Light-weight sleepers
We’d recommend the Plush version of this bed for light-weight sleepers, who might find the Luxury Firm a touch too firm as they have less body weight to sink into the cushioned comfort layer. The Plush model should offer the right support and comfort when back and stomach sleeping. However, lightweight side sleepers will likely need more plush to cushion joints adequately in this position.
Average-weight sleepers
We think the Luxury Firm version of this bed provides the right support and cushioning for average-weight sleepers in most positions. However, side sleepers with a deeper sinkage may prefer the Plush model.
Heavy-weight sleepers
Our product testers think most heavy-weight sleepers will experience great pressure relief on the Luxury Firm model. However, extra heavy people and stomach sleepers might prefer the feel of the Firm model as it should offer more support.
Back sleepers
This bed is a great choice for back sleepers, with its targeted lumbar support to keep the spine in alignment and its ability to evenly distribute body weight. These features should help to reduce back pain. (12)
Stomach sleepers
The Saatva Classic’s sturdy support system keeps the hips lifted, which tend to sink when sleeping on the stomach. Most heavyweight stomach sleepers should probably stick to the Firm model, which will offer better support in this position.
Combination sleepers
This mattress suits many sleeping styles with its versatile feel. Plus, the Saatva Classic’s responsive surface and gentle (rather than deep) contouring make it easy to move around on, which is likely ideal for most combination sleepers. Research shows that switching sleeping positions on a highly responsive surface requires less muscle activity, which may help with more restorative sleep. (13)
Hot sleepers
Being too warm while sleeping can potentially negatively impact sleep quality, so it’s important to find a mattress that likely doesn’t break you out in a sweat. (14) The Saatva Classic features breathable organic cotton in its cover and has a dual-coil unit, which keeps the bed breezy, preventing heat from being trapped. Plus, studies suggest that sleeping on a responsive surface (potentially like the Saatva Classic) can help lower the body’s core temperature, which may help you fall asleep, stay asleep, and enjoy more profound, more restorative sleep. People with back pain
The Luxury Firm model, in particular, may be suitable for people who experience back issues as it has a medium-firm feel. Research suggests that medium-firm mattresses can help avoid back pain. (16) Studies also show that mattresses featuring targeted support are superior at easing back pain. (12) The Saatva Classic has multiple lumbar support features.
Who Saatva Classic is not recommended for:
Light sleepers who co-sleep
We think this mattress boasts many benefits for couples, like fantastic edge support, high bounce, and great cooling, but it doesn’t isolate motion very well. This could be an issue if you’re easily disturbed and share with a restless partner. In this case, we’d recommend a bed with better motion isolation.
Lightweight side sleepers
Dedicated side sleepers on the lighter end of the weighing scale might find that even the Plush model doesn’t offer enough cushioning to experience the pressure relief they need in this position. If this is the case, we’d recommend looking for an all-foam or a hybrid with thicker, plusher comfort layers.
Expert opinion
Our product tester loved the Saatva Classic’s premium design, saying, “The bed feels high-quality thanks to the plush breathable cover, zoned support, and Lumbar Zone® active spinal wire.”
As well as being high quality, this mattress is incredibly versatile, with different firmness options catering to the masses. The most popular version is the Luxury Firm, which we reviewed. Our tester had this to say: “The bed feels incredibly sturdy and plush. Hips and spine stayed in alignment. The bed isn’t cradling you as a whole but contouring around your joints, which is nice—most people should feel comfortable on this mattress.”
They were most impressed with the edge support, describing it as “nearly perfect.” They pushed it to the limit by laying half their body off the mattress and reported that it “still felt comfortable and not like I was going to fall off.”

Shipping
Saatva offers free white glove delivery with every mattress, which is neat. This means the mattress will be installed in the room of your choice, and they can even remove your old mattress and foundation if you desire. Saatva says it will call you the day before your chosen delivery date with a four-hour time window, though some Trustpilot reviewers experienced otherwise.
Saatva delivers across the contiguous U.S., but those in Alaska or Hawaii can arrange delivery via a freight forwarder in Seattle or California. Shoppers outside the U.S. are welcome to have the mattress delivered to a freight forwarder with which they’ve made their own arrangements.
Sleep trial
Saatva offers a generous 365-night sleep trial with its mattresses, giving you plenty of time to decide. If you return or exchange the mattress within this time, you’ll be charged a $99 processing fee.
Warranty
Every Saatva mattress comes with a lifetime warranty that covers it for defective materials and workmanship for as long as you own it, and it has been used normally in residential use.
- If you have a problem in the first two years of ownership, Saatva will replace the mattress at no cost.
- From year three onwards, Saatva will repair and re-cover your mattress for a processing fee of $149.
- Saatva also offers a separate “Fairness Replacement Option” from year three onwards, where you get to keep the defective bed for personal use and purchase a brand new one (of the same model and size) at a fraction of the original cost. From years three to five, you’ll pay 50% of the original price. From years six to 10, you’ll pay 60%, and from years 11 to 15, you’ll pay 80%. A processing fee of $99 will also apply.

Saatva Classic vs. Loom & Leaf
The 12-inch all-foam Loom & Leaf is constructed with multiple layers of pressure-relieving, high-density memory foam that envelops you in a deep, body-contouring hug. It comes in two firmness options: Relaxed Firm, which feels medium-firm, and Firm, which feels firm.
Price: The Loom & Leaf is slightly more expensive, at $2,395 for a queen compared to $2,095 for a Saatva Classic queen.
Body weight: With multiple firmness options and strong support layers, both mattresses cater to a wide range of body weights. However, extra-lightweight sleepers might prefer something a little plusher than either mattress, while people on the heaviest end of the scale might need a mattress specially designed for plus-size sleepers.
Sleeping position: Dedicated side sleepers will likely prefer the deeper cushioning of the Loom & Leaf as it offers better pressure relief in this position than the Saatva Classic. Back sleepers could be comfortable on either as we think both mattresses are great for those with back pain, thanks to their lumbar support features. The Loom & Leaf provides surprisingly good support for a foam bed, so we think stomach sleepers would appreciate both the Loom & Leaf in Firm and the Saatva Classic in Luxury Firm or Firm.
Combination sleepers might prefer the more responsive surface of the Saatva Classic, which will be easier to move around on than the deep-sinking foams of the Loom & Leaf.
Cooling: Foam mattresses usually sleep hotter than innerspring mattresses, as memory foam is less breathable than coils, which can trap heat more. The Loom & Leaf has a breathable organic cotton cover and gel-infused foam to help with heat dissipation, but we still found that it slept quite warm. The Saatva Classic does a much better job of cooling, as it has two breezy coil units.

Saatva Classic vs. Saatva Youth
The Saatva Youth is a 10-inch dual-sided innerspring mattress designed for kids aged three to 12. One side is for children aged three to seven, and it has a medium-firm feel. The other side is for those aged eight to 12, and it has a slightly firmer feel (but still medium-firm) to accommodate an older child’s larger body weight. It’s available in twin, twin XL, and full sizes.
Price: A twin-size Saatva Classic costs $1,395, while a twin-size Saatva Youth is much cheaper at $795. It’s still not the cheapest kid’s bed on the market, but it’s designed to be durable and last a child until they’re 12 years old, so it could be a worthy investment.
Body weight: The Saatva Youth has a maximum weight limit of 250 pounds,, but we wouldn’t recommend it for adults. It’s specially designed for kids, so it isn’t likely to be supportive enough unless you’re very light-weight. Adults should stick to the Saatva Classic. Kids of all shapes and sizes should feel supported on the Saatva Youth, as it has sturdy coils and enhanced lumbar support on both sides of the mattress.
Sleeping position: All sleeping positions should be accommodated for on the Saatva Youth, ages three to seven, with side sleeping offering more pressure relief. The mattress has a great support system of high-density foam and zoned support foam and coils, which should help keep the spine in alignment, even when stomach sleeping.
Cooling: The Saatva Youth has a breathable organic cotton cover on both sides and a coil unit allowing airflow. It slept pretty cool, although kids who sleep in warmer climates might prefer something with more cooling features. The Saatva Classic sleeps a bit cooler as it has more coils for airflow.

The Saatva Rx hybrid mattress stands 15 inches tall and is the first luxury mattress specially designed to offer maximum spinal support and pressure relief. It’s available in one firmness option, which we found to be on the softer end of medium-firm.
Price: At $3,295 for a queen compared to $2,095 for a Saatva Classic queen, the Saatva Rx is substantially more expensive. However, it’s a durable luxury mattress designed with innovative therapeutic features that the Saatva Classic doesn’t have, like an adaptive micro-coil layer and a modular foam support layer for enhanced body contouring. This could make it worth the extra spend for those who experience significant joint pain.
Body weight: It’s not often you get a true all-rounder, but we think the medium feel of the Saatva Rx offers the right balance of comfort and support for most body weights. However, some heavier sleepers may feel their hips sinking out of alignment. The Saatva Classic in Firm may be a better option in this case. For everyone else, it’s up to you as the Saatva Classic also caters well to all body weights thanks to its three firmness options. However, for those living with chronic pain, it’s a no-brainer. If you can afford the Saatva Rx, we highly recommend it because it offers enhanced pressure relief and cushioning.
Sleeping position: Both mattresses work well for all sleeping positions, but if we’re being fussy, the Saatva Classic might slightly beat the Saatva Rx when it comes to stomach sleeping, as it’s available in firmer options that can help keep the lumbar lifted. Side sleepers might prefer the Saatva Rx as it offers superior pressure relief, which should take the weight off the shoulders and hips. We think both mattresses work great for back sleepers.
Cooling: Both mattresses have a breathable organic cotton cover and coils that allow airflow. The Saatva Rx has much more foam in its construction, which can often trap heat. However, Saatva has added cooling measures through the gel in the memory foam lumbar crown and cooling graphite and phase change material in the Therapeutic Support Core™ foam that sits atop the coil unit. This foam is also open-cell, which makes it more breathable, and studies show that mattresses featuring phase change material can increase body heat dissipation by up to 25.6%. (17, 18) Our product testers report that both mattresses slept pretty cool, but the Saatva Classic was slightly cooler as it contains less foam and more coils. However, this should only really matter to hot sleepers or those in warm climates.

This bed might be great for soothing pain with its therapeutic foams that cradle the body to eliminate pressure points. This bed is also super bouncy thanks to micro-coils and a coil support unit, which makes it easier to move around if you have mobility issues.
Couples
As this bed works for most body weights and sleeping styles, it could be an excellent choice for couples needing compromise when shopping for a mattress.
