After helping pave the way in the direct-to-consumer mattress space, Casper remains a popular choice among buyers searching for a quality bed-in-a-box option. The brand offers all-foam and hybrid models using top-notch materials like CertiPUR-US®-certified foams and sturdy steel coils. (1)
After 10 years of providing comfort and support through its signature line, Casper released an all-new mattress collection in early 2024 with five new models. The company says these new beds have the same high-quality features as the old models but with some additional improvements. We were eager to dive in to see what this new line of mattresses has to offer.
Casper’s The One is its new flagship model, replacing the Casper Original Foam mattress. The new model differs slightly in its construction and overall feel. The Zoned Support™ in the second layer was swapped for Align Memory Foam for added support and pressure relief. The One also provides sleepers with a firmer feel than the original. In my review below, I’ll walk through all the details of the new mattress in depth.

Casper The One
Key product features
What you should know
Casper’s The One is the brand’s all-foam model in its newest line of redesigned mattresses. Its classic construction offers three layers of high-quality memory foam that provide comfort and support.
- This newer model has a slightly firmer feel than the original Casper, making it an excellent choice for back and stomach sleepers.
- Its affordable price tag of $999 for a queen makes it a budget-friendly choice, even more so when it’s on sale as low as $799.
- The open-cell foam helps reduce heat buildup, but overly hot sleepers will likely prefer a mattress with more advanced cooling features.
- You can find Casper mattresses on the brand’s website or at major retailers like Target, Costco, and Amazon.
Casper The One overview
In Casper’s 2024 collection, the brand focused on simplicity to help make mattress buying easier for its customers. The One is an excellent example of that with its minimalistic design. It’s the only all-foam mattress in the brand’s new line, while the others offer a hybrid design. It balances comfort and support to suit various sleep styles, providing a medium-firm to firm feel.
This classic memory foam mattress is delivered to your door as a bed-in-a-box that you simply unroll and lay flat on your bed frame or floor to let it take shape. It’s a lighter-weight mattress compared to some competitors, which makes it easier to set up. Casper states that you can sleep on it immediately, but it may take up to 48 hours to fully expand. Unfortunately, the unboxing process also releases significant off-gassing—which is harmless but can result in an unpleasant smell—so you’ll want to ensure your room is well-ventilated for at least the first day or two until the smell dissipates.

Mattress construction
With an 11-inch profile, The One features four basic layers, including the cover and three tiers of foam. Its open-cell polyfoams provide a well-balanced, airy, responsive feel with a layer of slower-moving memory foam for optimal pressure relief. We’ll dive into each material below to help you understand precisely what this bed is made of.
Cover: The mattress is wrapped in a knit, polyester blend cover. It’s soft and breathable, creating a cozy feeling as you climb into bed.
Comfort layers: The first layer of polyurethane foam (also called polyfoam or PU foam) features an open-cell design to help with airflow and body temperature regulation. This Breathe Flex Foam is more responsive than memory foam, giving it a bouncier feel.
Transition layer: Up next, a two-inch layer of Align Memory Foam replaces the zoned support from the Casper Original. This denser foam offers exceptional pressure relief as it conforms to the body’s shape.
Base layer: The bulk of the mattress comes from the final layer of thick, high-density polyfoam. It provides most of the bed’s support to help prevent excessive sinking and sagging.
Firmness
After exploring the mattress’s construction, let’s discuss how it feels to lie on it. We assess mattress firmness on a scale of one to 10. The higher the bed rates on the scale, the firmer it feels. While we hope this rating feels helpful, remember that firmness is subjective. Factors like sleep position, body type, and personal preferences can influence how you perceive a mattress compared to our testers.
After evaluating the mattress in various sleep positions, we rated The One as a seven out of 10, which we would describe as medium-firm. It has a slightly firmer feel than the Casper Original. It creates a floating, on-top-of-the-bed feel versus the classic sinking of traditional memory foam mattresses. We feel this makes it an excellent choice for lighter and average-weight back, combination, and stomach sleepers for the ideal back support it provides. (2) However, it will likely feel too firm for most side sleepers.
Mattress performance
Your sleep environment and mattress are critical for promoting quality sleep and supporting your overall health. (3) That’s why we go beyond firmness and analyze each mattress across critical features that can significantly impact the sleep experience. We break down The One’s performance into categories like pressure relief, cooling, and edge support to help provide detailed insight that you can use to decide if this mattress is the best fit for your needs.
Pressure relief and support
Pressure relief and support are two of the most significant factors affecting a mattress’s comfort. For many, finding a balance between these two features is optimal. A mattress often feels best when it maintains proper spinal alignment while alleviating pressure buildup under your shoulders, hips, and lower back.
The springy, supportive polyfoam layers that comprise most of this mattress’s construction help keep the body lifted and aligned. Meanwhile, the middle memory foam layer provides just enough sinkage to soften the mattress around the hips and shoulders when lying on your back or stomach.
If you rotate often between your side and back or stomach, you’ll likely find this mattress is plenty comfortable. However, we don’t think you’ll get enough relief in the shoulders if you’re a strict side sleeper. We also wouldn’t recommend this mattress for heavier-weight (250+ pounds) individuals who could benefit from a thicker, more supportive mattress. (4)
Cooling
We take body temperature seriously in our mattress evaluation process since overheating at night can significantly impact sleep quality. (5) Traditionally, cooling has not been a highlight of all-foam mattresses. Casper addresses this by using open-cell foams that allow for better airflow. While it has no additional advanced cooling features, it successfully offers a temperature-neutral feel. You shouldn’t feel much heat building up beneath you, but it also won’t do much to provide a cooling feel. Overly hot sleepers likely won’t get the relief they need in this mattress. Instead, we encourage those individuals to upgrade to The Snow or The Snow Max model, which are hybrid mattresses with HeatDelete™ Bands, phase change material, and a cooling cover.
Motion isolation
This mattress excels at reducing motion transfer across the mattress. While we wouldn’t expect anything less from a foam mattress, we talk below about the springier feel, so we were pleasantly surprised that we didn’t feel much movement throughout. This is likely thanks to the memory foam layer absorbing the motion, making it an ideal choice for those who share their bed with a partner, pet, or child who tosses and turns frequently.
Responsiveness
If you’re a combination sleeper who frequently changes positions at night, this category is one you’ll want to focus on. A responsive bed can quickly adjust and provide consistent support as you move around during sleep. It can also help reduce sleep disturbances by allowing you to reposition yourself with less effort.
The polyfoams in the mattress’s top and bottom layers help enhance The One’s responsiveness. The buoyant feel makes it easier to move around, and little sinkage means you won’t feel stuck.
Edge support
A mattress that maintains support along its perimeter can help provide stability when getting in and out of bed and allow you to utilize the entire width when sleeping. We found The One offers decent edge support. It sinks a little when sitting or lying near the edge, but it’s not too excessive for an all-foam bed that lacks the reinforced coils of a hybrid or innerspring mattress.
Cost
The price is another highlight worth mentioning in our Casper review. Through our mattress testing experience, we’ve found high-quality memory foam mattresses typically cost between $700 and $2,400 for a queen. The One lands easily within this range, valued at $999 for a queen-sized bed. Moreover, we often find it discounted to $799, making it a suitable option for budget-conscious shoppers looking for a mattress under $1,000.
What customers are saying
Casper’s new mattress collection isn’t available yet through third-party vendors like Amazon or Target, so we couldn’t find independent reviews of The One. However, Casper has over 6,000 reviews on Trustpilot, with 70% earning a five-star rating.
Jane R. is a Trustpilot reviewer who had a positive experience throughout the buying process: “I purchased the Casper memory foam mattress, two memory foam pillows, a duvet, and a mattress protector. I am delighted with the quality and comfort of everything I bought. It’s easily the best bedding I’ve ever had, and I wish I’d purchased it sooner. I found the process of ordering, payment, and delivery very simple. It took delivery just days after ordering, and the delivery men were excellent. They removed my old mattress, placed the new one on the base for me, and took the old one away. They were very accommodating and polite. I thoroughly recommend this company and its products. It’s excellent.”
Unfortunately, another Trustpilot reviewer said the mattress was too firm, writing, “I find the bed too hard for me and will be returning it. When you lie on it, it does sink to your body shape, but when you move (and I move a lot before falling asleep), you start over again on a hard mattress, waiting to sink in again. So I’m afraid it is not for me. I also noted that the depth of the mattress was 20mm less than stated in the specification.”
Who the Casper The One is recommended for:
Using everything we’ve learned from the mattress’s construction and performance, we’ll provide our top recommendations for those who may find this mattress most accommodating for their sleep needs.
- We think back and stomach sleepers will most appreciate this mattress’s firmer, supportive feel, which helps maintain proper sleep posture. (6)
- If you’re a combination sleeper, you’ll enjoy effortless position changes on this sleep surface.
- Couples will feel fewer disturbances on The One thanks to the superb motion isolation offered by the foam layers.
- The affordable price will appease many budget-conscious shoppers.
Who the Casper The One is not recommended for:
Like any mattress, this won’t be “The One” for every sleeper. You may not find what you want if you relate to any of the following:
- If you spend most of the night on your side, we recommend browsing our list of the best mattresses for side sleepers instead.
- While The One doesn’t trap as much heat as some memory foam mattresses, we encourage overly hot sleepers to find an option with more advanced cooling features.
- Heavier-weight individuals (250+ pounds) also may not find the support they need in this thinner mattress.
Expert opinion
During our mattress reviews, we collaborate with various sleep and medical experts to gather professional insight and valuable guidance. For Casper’s The One, we contacted Dr. Shelby Harris, a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in behavioral sleep medicine.
“However, I like always reminding people that comfort is very personal,” says Dr. Harris. “While this mattress could work well for many people, it might not be the ideal fit for everyone. This mattress may not be for you if you have specific needs or prefer a firmer or softer feel. I’d suggest trying it out during the trial period to ensure it meets your comfort and support needs.”
How we rated the Casper The One
Our experienced team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally tests each mattress to assess performance in categories such as comfort, support, and cooling. Scroll down to read our full evaluation on each topic, or hover over the category icon below for a brief description.
Casper performed well in many categories we tested, including value and overall comfort and support. It was effective in helping regulate body temperature, but cooling wasn’t overly impressive. Casper’s hybrid Snow and Snow Max may be better for overly hot sleepers. Moreover, the sleep trial and warranty only reached the absolute minimum we’re looking for in quality mattresses.

Warranties and policies
Warranty
A solid warranty can provide peace of mind that your mattress is protected against potential defects, ensuring lasting comfort and support. Casper offers a 10-year limited warranty for mattresses purchased directly through the company or one of its authorized retailers.
As long as you’re the original purchaser, your mattress is covered against defects such as indentations greater than one inch caused by normal wear and tear, physical flaws, and any issues with the mattress cover’s zipper. In any of those cases, Casper will repair or replace your mattress. We recommend reading the full policy before purchasing because some limitations and situations can void the warranty—like not placing it on a solid bed frame.
Trial period
It takes time to adjust to a new bed and determine if it provides what you need from your sleep surface. We look for companies that offer at least 100 nights to try your bed at home before making a final decision, and that’s precisely what Casper offers. During the risk-free trial, you can return the mattress for a full refund if you don’t like it for any reason. The company will send someone to pack and remove it, so you don’t have to try to stuff it back into the box. Casper just asks that you spend at least 30 nights on it to give your body time to adjust before sending it back.
Shipping and returns
Whether you choose The One or any of Casper’s other mattress models, you’ll benefit from free shipping and returns as long as you live in the contiguous U.S. If you’re shipping it to Alaska or Hawaii, you’ll owe an extra $250 in shipping fees. The good news is that Casper will refund the shipping fees if you return the mattress.
As I previously mentioned, these mattresses come tightly rolled up in a box. The One isn’t as heavy as other mattresses I’ve reviewed, but it may still be a two-person job to safely get it to your bedroom. You can opt for white-glove delivery if you want to forgo the hassle. For $199, a team will provide in-home delivery, setup, and removal of your previous mattress.
Additional models from Casper
If this memory foam mattress isn’t your style, Casper offers four more hybrid options that may suit your needs. Let’s look at how those stack up compared to The One.
Casper The Dream
Key product features
The One vs. The Dream
The Dream is Casper’s most basic hybrid mattress, blending multiple layers of premium foam with sturdy innerspring coils. It’s a breathable, responsive mattress with excellent support and pressure relief.
- Cost: Hybrid mattresses typically cost more than all-foam models, and The Dream is no exception with its $1,875 price tag for a queen.
- Materials: Casper replaces the mattress’s high-density foam base with innerspring coils in this model. Above that, the Align Memory Foam and Breathe Flex Foam remain.
- Comfort and support: This mattress is significantly softer than The One, offering a medium feel. The memory foam layer has zoned support, staying supportive under your lower back while flexing more in your hips and shoulders to help keep your spine aligned. The individually wrapped innerspring coils also add support.
- Cooling: The added coils provide more airflow than The One offers.
We recommend The Dream for:
- With a softer feel, we feel this is an ideal choice for side sleepers.
- Back sleepers will also benefit from the zoned support that helps promote spinal alignment.
- The responsive coils and polyfoam should suit combination sleepers well, as long as they don’t spend too much time on their stomachs.
Casper The Snow
Key product features
The One vs. The Snow
The Snow is a very fitting name for this cooling hybrid mattress. It features three layers of cooling technology to ensure you can sleep comfortably without overheating.
- Cost: We weren’t surprised to see this mattress’s price tag jump to $2,495 for a queen after adding advanced cooling features.
- Materials: Casper made significant changes in this mattress compared to The Dream, including adding a Snow Cover, phase change material (PCM), and three HeatDelete™ bands for maximum cooling. Furthermore, the top foam layer is memory foam instead of polyfoam.
- Comfort and support: With two memory foam layers, this mattress offers a deeper hugging feel. However, it maintains the same zoned supportive system as The Dream, which helps relieve joint tension.
- Cooling: With this mattress’s trifecta of cooling features, sleeping hot should be a thing of the past. The cover offers active cooling at the surface combined with PCM, drawing heat away from your body. The three HeatDelete™ Bands are a unique feature that uses aluminum graphite to dissipate excess heat.
We recommend The Snow for:
- Hot sleepers should be able to rest comfortably all night on this mattress.
- With a medium feel and extra soothing memory foam, we encourage side sleepers to choose this mattress over The One.
- The zoned support is ideal for back sleepers.
Casper The Dream Max
Key product features
The One vs. The Dream Max
Casper enters the luxury mattress space with its Max models. The Dream Max offers an ergonomic construction designed to reduce aches and pains.
- Cost: Compared to other luxury mattresses, this one feels expensive at $3,125 for a queen.
- Materials: This bed has an extra layer of Align Flex Foam compared to the standard Dream model. The other three foam and coil layers remain the same.
- Comfort and support: If you enjoy a soft mattress that cradles your body, this may be the one for you. The channels cut into the Align Memory Foam help the mattress conform to your body’s unique shape. Furthermore, the Dream Max has seven support zones instead of three for maximum pressure relief and spinal alignment.
- Cooling: Like The Dream, this mattress employs open-cell flex foam and breathable coils to help prevent heat from getting trapped.
We recommend The Dream Max for:
- Side sleepers should find this bed feels cozy as it cradles their shoulders and hips.
- The zoned support is excellent for back sleepers who benefit from more support under their lumbar area while experiencing cushioning in the hips and shoulders.
- Those who suffer from back and joint pain may also find much-needed relief from this bed as it maximizes pressure relief.
Casper The Snow Max
Key product features
The One vs. The Snow Max
As part of Casper’s premium lineup, the Snow Max maintains the luxury feel offered by the Dream Max and adds advanced cooling technology.
- Cost: You’ll have to dig deeper into your pockets for this one, with a queen-sized mattress priced at $3,745.
- Materials: Like the standard Snow model, this mattress features a Soothe Memory Foam layer in place of the top polyfoam layer, for a total of three memory foam layers above the innerspring coils. While the cooling cover and PCM are the same, we found twice as many HeatDelete™ Bands in The Snow Max compared to The Snow.
- Comfort and support: This is another softer mattress in the Casper collection. Two layers of zoned support gently contour the body while maintaining proper alignment. Moreover, the flexible coils maintain sturdy support up to the mattress’s edge.
- Cooling: This mattress’s focus on cooling features three layers designed to draw heat away from the body, including a Snow Cover, PCM, and six HeatDelete™ Bands. As the final piece, the innerspring coils allow fantastic airflow at the bed’s base.
We recommend The Snow Max for:
- This mattress is designed to provide an exceptionally cool sleep experience that’s ideal for hot sleepers.
- We also recommend it for side sleepers who typically enjoy a softer mattress.
- Back sleepers should find this mattress contours the spine’s natural curve through its balanced support and comfort.
Casper The One vs. competitors
As we wrap up our review of Casper’s The One, comparing it to similar mattresses by other brands can be helpful. If you want a memory foam mattress but don’t feel like The One meets your expectations, you may find what you need from one of these other beds.
The Nectar Original’s therapeutic memory foam and medium-firm feel make it a superior pick for back pain sufferers. For those looking for a softer mattress, the Nolah Signature excels at cushioning the hips and shoulders while side sleeping. On the other hand, we recommend the Plank Firm if you need a solid sleep surface instead to help support stomach sleeping or for heavier-weight individuals. Finally, you’ll find incredible value in the affordable Bear Original, often on sale for only $649 for a queen-sized mattress.
