Pressure relief and support
Comfort is largely based on personal preference, but a mattress that can adequately balance support and pressure relief can help create the optimal sleep environment for more restful sleep.
Support is a hot topic when it comes to mattresses for heavier people, and it’s something that the Titan Plus truly shines in. Our testers said they felt incredibly supported and lifted on the bed. They felt the spine stayed well-aligned, which can be vital for reducing discomfort and enhancing sleep quality. (3)
We also evaluated how well this mattress distributed body weight and helped reduce tension in critical joints like the hips, back, and shoulders. After all, a firm mattress shouldn’t feel like you’re sleeping on a board. Our team felt fantastic when on their backs and stomachs, with the least amount of pressure buildup in those positions. However, we can’t say the same for side sleeping, where we saw more pressure accumulating under the shoulders. Side sleepers, especially those weighing under 250 pounds, would be better off looking elsewhere.
Cooling
Cooling features are often highly sought-after attributes in mattresses, rightfully so, since nighttime body temperature can significantly impact sleep quality. (4) Fortunately, we found the Titan Plus sleeps reasonably cool. The gel-infused foams absorb heat and disperse it away from the body, while the pocketed coils allow air to flow so heat doesn’t become trapped.
Even so, we recommend overly hot sleepers upgrade to the optional GlacioTex™ cooling cover, which costs an additional $150 for a queen-sized mattress. While the model we tested here didn’t include it, we’ve tested it on other Brooklyn Bedding models and have been amazed at how cool-to-the-touch beds feel with this cover. Beware that it adds a slippery feel to the surface and can somewhat diminish edge support.
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation is a vital factor when testing mattress performance. If you share your bed with a partner or a pet, you may experience more sleep disturbances when they change positions or get in and out of bed if your mattress doesn’t effectively reduce motion transfer. Instead, a bed with good motion isolation helps prevent movement and vibrations from traveling across the bed.
We run several tests to evaluate this category. In our human test, one person lies on the bed and monitors movement while a partner gets in and out of bed and moves around. Our other tests involve dropping weighted balls onto the mattress, observing water movement in a glass, and monitoring seismograph activity.
Throughout all of these tests, we saw a reasonable amount of motion transfer. However, our tester noted that their side of the bed wasn’t significantly impacted by their partner’s movements even though they could feel them. Still, if you’re a light sleeper, you may prefer a mattress with less bounce and more motion absorption.
Responsiveness
When looking at responsiveness, we want to see how easy it is to move around and change positions on the mattress. You may consider this important if you’re a combination sleeper who switches sleeping positions often throughout the night. It’s also one of the most highly desirable traits in mattresses for sex. Generally, we see that slow-sinking memory foams have low responsiveness, while hybrid and innerspring mattresses respond quickly.
The Titan Plus performed incredibly well in this area. The gel and latex-like foams adapt and bounce back quickly, and the coils provide additional support to keep you on top of the mattress. We found it easy to move around and think combination sleepers will likely have no problem effortlessly changing positions.
Edge Support
The final performance factor comes down to how well the mattress remains supportive up to the very edge. When a mattress maintains its support and structure around the perimeter, you can utilize the entire width for sleeping, which can be critical for larger-bodied individuals and couples who want enough space to spread out. Overall, the Titan Plus demonstrated terrific edge support. Our team felt well-supported when lying near the edge and saw very little sinking when sitting. It also felt easy to get in and out of bed, which can be a considerable benefit for individuals with mobility issues.

In place of the latex-alternative foam used by Titan, the Big Fig employs a true latex foam in its top comfort layer, which adds buoyancy to the mattress. Overall, the feel is similar, and we consider both mattresses exceptional for heavy-weight back and stomach sleepers.
Cooling is another notable area to discuss between these two mattresses. Both feature gel-infused foams and innerspring coils to help dissipate heat. We’ve mentioned already that the cooling cover is an optional upgrade on the Titan Plus, while the Big Fig includes a cooling cover in the standard option. However, it’s not necessarily a fair comparison, considering the Big Fig is still significantly more expensive even after adding the $150 cooling cover to the Titan.
For a queen-sized Big Fig, you’ll pay $1,899, which is an extra $650 compared to the Titan Plus without the cooling cover. How firm is the Titan Plus mattress?

During testing, our team noted that they were well supported on top of the mattress and felt no sinkage, keeping the body aligned for better sleep quality. Do I need a box spring with the Titan Plus?
With the Titan Plus, you don’t need to use a box spring below it, but you can if you want to or already have one. Brooklyn Bedding simply recommends using any solid system that doesn’t allow the mattress to flex. That may include slatted wood or metal platforms with slats no more than four inches apart, box foundations, and solid wood or metal bases.
