Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress overview

The Saatva Latex Hybrid blends latex foam’s pressure-relieving qualities with sturdy support from a robust innerspring coil core. This mattress’s ergonomic design and zoned lumbar support may help promote healthy sleep posture and alleviate joint discomfort. It features organic, natural, and upcycled materials that appeal to shoppers looking for a mattress that’s both good for them and the environment.

The Euro top is the first element in the Latex Hybrid’s luxury design. The certified organic cotton maximizes breathability at the mattress’s surface. (1) It’s also treated with an antimicrobial solution that can help keep the mattress clean and free of mold and bacteria. The GOTS-certified wool layer below enhances temperature control and keeps moisture at bay. (2) It’s also a natural fire retardant without fiberglass or other harmful chemicals.

Next, Saatva adds a thick layer of all-natural Dunlop latex for optimal pressure relief and responsiveness. (3, 4) This comfort foam’s zoned support maintains a firmer feel through the lumbar area to help enhance back support. This latex layer has small perforations for airflow, pressure relief, and back support. Studies demonstrate that latex mattresses can promote healthy sleep posture that can help maintain proper spinal alignment. (5

The recycled steel coils are another notable highlight of this hybrid mattress. The individually wrapped design allows each spring to move independently, adapting quickly to movements and contouring the body’s unique shape. Like the latex foam, the coils are also arranged strategically with firmer support through the lower back.

The Latex Hybrid comes in one firmness option, which Saatva describes as medium-firm. It can accommodate various sleeping positions. However, back and stomach sleepers may find the most comfort in the mattress’s balanced firmness and enhanced lumbar support.

What customers are saying

Saatva is highly rated on Trustpilot, earning 4.6 stars overall with over 1,200 customer reviews. Reviewers highlight the comfort, support, and durability of many of the brand’s mattresses. They also praise the customer service team for their responsiveness and level of care.

Trustpilot reviewer Carolyn Z. shares, “I had been looking for a mattress for several months, following the reviews and scores. I have had two back surgeries in the past three years, and although I felt great after the surgeries and returned to my normal routine, I did too much and put pressure on my spine. I’m a stomach and side sleeper, and the mattress I was sleeping on was only three years old but very uncomfortable. I decided on the Saatva Latex Hybrid and am so happy I did. I can now get up and go to the bathroom during the night without my walker. I am sleeping without pain. I love my mattress and wish I had purchased it last year. I plan to replace the other twin XL mattress in the near future. The whole process was great. The delivery went smoothly, and they took my old mattress. The delivery gentlemen were very professional. Thank you, Saatva!”

“We were considering buying a new mattress,” says Trustpilot reviewer Linda S. “Independently, my husband and I researched mattresses online. We both felt a Saatva mattress was probably best for us, but we needed many questions answered. We called Saatva and were connected to Christine. She was a great help, answering all our questions and providing a complete picture, helping us choose a mattress, and letting us know every step of how it will get to us. We expect our mattress in three days and can hardly wait to sleep on it. Based on our experience to date, we highly recommend Saatva!

In the negative reviews, some customers were unsatisfied with how long delivery took. Others complained about the $99 return fee they owed when returning a mattress.

Trustpilot reviewer “jtp” said, “After owning a Saatva mattress for many years, I contacted them due to some sagging issues and any remaining warranty. They replied that I could return the old mattress and purchase a new mattress at 60% of my original purchase price, which was fine. I was also told that a $99 processing fee is added to the price. Not fine. In my opinion, that is just an unnecessary tacked-on fee, and needless to say, I declined to purchase another mattress from them even though I liked the original mattress.”

Our Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress experience

Our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches spent hours with this mattress, gathering data and firsthand insight so we could share our findings and recommendations with you.

Firmness

Firmness describes the overall feel of the mattress, including how soft or firm it is. We mentioned in the overview that Saatva classifies it as a medium-firm mattress, rating it a six out of 10 on the firmness scale. We rated it slightly firmer than that at seven. Our testers commented that the cover offers a thick, plush surface that gives way to firm and responsive layers below.

Support and pressure relief

We felt well-supported on this mattress, staying firmly on top of the bed with its buoyancy and bounce. The enhanced lumbar support was apparent when we were back sleeping, and our pressure maps showed no pressure buildup in this position. Our testers experienced similar comfort while stomach sleeping and noted their hips stayed lifted and aligned.

Cooling

The Saatva Latex Hybrid excels in the cooling category, earning high marks from our testers. The cover feels cool and breathable, and we didn’t experience heat buildup after lying on it. We expect hot sleepers will enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep with fewer disturbances from overheating and sweating.

Responsiveness

This mattress’s responsiveness is undoubtedly a strength; our team described it as “bouncy.” We didn’t expect anything less, knowing it layers springy latex on top of adaptive coils. Combination sleepers should be able to change positions with ease, and couples can enjoy that it’s a good mattress for sex

Motion isolation

Unfortunately, the Latex Hybrid didn’t perform as well in our motion isolation tests. The bouncy feel allows for movement to carry across the mattress, which could lead to more disturbances if you’re a light sleeper and share your bed with a restless partner. Instead, we recommend considering a memory foam mattress or one of the best mattresses for couples.

Edge support

This mattress stays firm and supportive up to the edge. We could lie on the edge without feeling like we’d fall off, which bodes well for sleeping. Even when sitting along the edge, we experienced minimal sinkage. It feels very sturdy and durable across the entire width.

Delivery

Free white-glove delivery is an incredible perk from Saatva. We appreciated that we didn’t have to worry about how heavy the mattress was and how we would get it inside and on the frame. It’s also one of the few online brands that doesn’t package its mattresses tightly into a box. You don’t have to unroll it and wait for it to expand—you can sleep on it immediately. You also don’t have to worry about an unpleasant smell or potentially harmful fumes from off-gassing.

Who we recommend the Saatva Latex Hybrid for:

  • We think back and stomach sleepers will find the most comfort with the slightly firmer feel.
  • Its springy nature can be perfect for combination sleepers who change positions frequently throughout the night.
  • Hot sleepers should have no problem staying cool on the Latex Hybrid.

Eco-conscious shoppers can sleep soundly on this bed made of natural, organic, and upcycled materials.

Saatva Latex Hybrid vs. Saatva Zenhaven

Saatva’s Latex Hybrid and Zenhaven mattresses are popular models in the brand’s organic latex collection. However, they offer significant differences in construction and overall sleep experiences. While the Latex hybrid blends latex foam with innerspring coils, the Zenhaven’s core is made entirely of latex foam.

The Zenhaven has a thinner profile at 10 inches tall because it doesn’t have coils. One of its most unique features is its flippable design. With dual-sided comfort, you can choose your ideal firmness level. One side offers a Luxury Plush feel that can provide deeper contouring, which is perfect for side sleepers. The other side is Gentle Firm, which provides enhanced support that can appeal to stomach sleepers. Back sleepers can find comfort on either side, depending on whether they prefer a softer or firmer bed.

The comfort latex foam layer on each side of the mattress features the same five-zoned support found in the Latex Hybrid. It maintains a firmer feel under the lower back while flexing more through the shoulders and hips to promote proper spinal alignment. Two thick latex core layers in the middle make up the mattress’s primary support system and add durability.

Both models excel in the cooling category. Like the Latex Hybrid, the Zenhaven also includes organic cotton and wool surface layers that promote breathability and prevent moisture buildup. Beneath the wool layer on each side of the mattress, we see a similar perforated latex layer, allowing air to flow through the channels.

The price is a significant differentiator between these two mattresses. Latex foam is more costly to manufacture, so it’s no surprise that a mattress made almost entirely of latex would cost more, which is the case with the Zenhaven. A queen-sized model costs $3,295, nearly $1,000 more than the Latex Hybrid.

Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress trial and warranty

Warranty

Saatva’s lifetime warranty reflects the company’s strong confidence in its product quality. The brand refers to it as the “Friends for Life” warranty, aiming to give customers peace of mind that they won’t have to worry about their mattress deteriorating prematurely. Should the mattress show signs of manufacturing or material defects, it’s covered as long as you own it.

However, Saatva handles warranty claims differently based on how long you’ve had your bed. For the first two years, it will replace the mattress with a new one for free. After that, the brand will send a team to repair and recover the mattress, but with a $149 processing fee. You can opt for a Fairness Replacement Option for a new mattress instead of repairs. Taking this route means you’ll keep your current mattress and be offered a new mattress at a discounted price, as outlined below:

  • Years three to five: 50% off the original full retail price
  • Years six to 10: 40% off the original full retail price
  • Years 11 to 15: 20% off the original full retail price

Please note that you’ll also be responsible for a $99 processing fee in addition to the price of the new mattress. While we appreciate an extended warranty, this policy isn’t as forgiving or straightforward as some competitors offering lifetime warranties with more gracious replacement periods and no processing fees.

Trial period

Buying a luxury mattress online can be nerve-racking when you spend significant money without knowing if the mattress will work for you. Saatva’s sleep trial simplifies decision-making by allowing customers to try their new mattress for an entire year before deciding if it’s right. If you don’t like the mattress for any reason during that time, you can call Saatva to request a refund or exchange. In either case, you’ll owe a $99 processing fee.

Shipping

Shipping is one of Saatva’s strongest customer service elements. The brand offers free shipping on all mattresses within the continental U.S., including white glove delivery. That means you can take a completely hands-off approach and let someone else do the work to get your new bed in place and ready to sleep on. A delivery team will schedule a day and timeframe to deliver and set up your new mattress on your bed frame. They can also remove and dispose of your old mattress for free if you’d like.

How to choose the right mattress for you

The mattress industry has diverse options, with each brand and model highlighting different features and advantages. Ultimately, you must decide which components are most important to you and best suit your sleep style. Below, we’ll discuss several vital factors that can help guide your mattress selection.

Firmness

Your ideal mattress firmness level will depend on your preferences toward a softer or firmer bed, preferred sleeping position, and unique body type. Softer mattresses often appeal more to side sleepers who need deeper cradling around their joints to help prevent uncomfortable pressure on the hips and shoulders. Conversely, if you spend most of the night on your stomach, you’ll likely be more comfortable on a firm mattress that keeps your hips lifted and spine aligned. Back and combination sleepers can typically find comfort in a broader range of mattresses from medium to firm.

Your body type also impacts how you experience a mattress’s firmness. Mattresses typically feel softer to heavier body types that apply more pressure and sink deeper into a bed’s layers. (6) These individuals should opt for a firmer mattress to ensure they get adequate support. On the other hand, if you’re a lightweight sleeper, you may perceive a mattress as feeling firmer and need to look for a softer model.

Type

Mattress design and materials play a significant role in your choice of mattress. Each model can typically fit into one of the following categories, each with its advantages and disadvantages.

  • Memory foam: If you want your mattress to hug your body while you sleep, memory foam may be the way to go. These beds are known for providing excellent pressure relief and contouring comfort. Heat retention can be one potential downfall, but many manufacturers are combating this with gel-infused foam and cooling covers.
  • Latex: Latex foam offers an excellent alternative to traditional memory foam. It has a more buoyant, responsive feel, and many brands claim it sleeps cooler due to its open-cell structure. It’s more expensive to manufacture as an all-natural material, so expect to pay more for all latex or latex hybrid mattresses.
  • Innerspring: This type of mattress usually offers firm support, good airflow, and long-lasting durability. It’s also typically very responsive, helping combination sleepers change positions easily. Many brands also focus on zoned support to help enhance comfort and contouring for sleepers with back and joint pain.
  • Hybrid: Hybrid mattresses are perhaps the most versatile type of bed. They combine comforting foams with supportive coils for a well-balanced sleep experience. Some models come in your choice of firmness level to further customize your bed.

Cooling

Overheating at night may harm your sleep health, and a mattress with advanced cooling components can help prevent it. (7) If you sleep hot at night, we encourage choosing a mattress that excels at regulating body temperature. Many brands boast various cooling features, such as a cooling cover, gel-infused or perforated foams, and coils. Generally, hybrid and innerspring mattresses sleep cooler because the space between the coils allows for airflow and reduces heat buildup.

Motion isolation

If you share your bed with a partner or pet, you may want to pay close attention to a mattress’s ability to isolate motion. Good motion isolation can help decrease nighttime disturbances caused by feeling your partner tossing and turning or getting in and out of bed. High-quality memory foam, latex foam, and pocketed coils can help dampen motion transfer.

Edge support

Strong edge support can provide stability when lying or sitting on the bed’s perimeter. A sturdy perimeter helps the mattress maintain shape and resist sagging over time. It can also ease getting in and out of bed for individuals with mobility issues. Plus, couples can appreciate maximizing the entire bed width, allowing them to sleep close to the edge without feeling like they’ll fall off.

Cost

Your budget is essential in any big financial decision, including your mattress purchase. We encourage you to determine your ideal price range beforehand to help guide your search. Various factors can impact a mattress’s cost, so it may also help to create a list of which features feel most important to you and may be worth paying more for. You can find high-quality, affordable mattresses for under $1,000, while luxury mattresses typically range from $1,200 to over $3,000.

FAQs

How firm is the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid offers a medium-firm feel with balanced pressure relief and zoned support. Research has shown that this is the ideal firmness to help relieve back pain and improve overall sleep quality. (8) However, you should consider your sleep needs, preferences, and position to help you decide if it’s the right fit.

Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid a good mattress?

We think the Saatva Latex Hybrid is an excellent mattress that offers luxury comfort for a broad range of sleepers. It uses high-quality, durable materials and earns several certifications for health and safety. (9, 10, 11) While its medium-firm feel makes it a versatile bed, it won’t be the right fit for everyone. Ultimately, you’ll have to determine whether it suits your needs.

Does the Saatva Latex Hybrid sag?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid’s high-quality materials and strong support provide durability that should help prevent it from sagging for many years. Every mattress will eventually experience deterioration as it ages, but we expect this one to last well into the seven to 10-year range when experts suggest replacing your bed. (12) If you experience any early breakdown, Saatva’s lifetime warranty may cover a replacement or repairs.

Is Saatva Latex Hybrid good for side sleepers?

We don’t recommend the Saatva Latex Hybrid for strict side sleepers because the firmer feel may lead to pressure buildup under sensitive joints like the shoulders and hips. However, everyone’s experience is different. With Saatva’s 365-night sleep trial, you could try it out risk-free and return it if it doesn’t work. You may also consider the Saatva Classic, which earns our pick as the best mattress for side sleepers overall.
