What you should know

Liquid I.V.’s Hydration Multiplier is the brand’s flagship electrolyte drink mix, crafted to enhance hydration more effectively than water alone. The formula features a robust blend of essential electrolytes, B vitamins, vitamin C, and simple carbohydrates, like cane sugar, to optimize fluid absorption and replenish vital nutrients.

  • Liquid I.V.’s hydration multiplier is available in 16 unique flavors, so you’ll surely find one that suits your taste buds. My personal favorites include Watermelon, Strawberry Lemonade, and Passion Fruit.
  • Liquid I.V. ‘s Hydration Multiplier, priced at $1.56 per serving, is competitively priced compared to other popular electrolyte stick packs like LMNT, which is $1.50 per serving, and BUBS Naturals, which is $1.86 per serving.
  • Given the sugar content of this product, it’s best suited for individuals rehydrating after physical activity. The added sugar helps replenish muscle glycogen stores and enhances the body’s ability to rehydrate effectively. (1)

Why we like Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier

We like Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier because it’s a straightforward and effective way to stay hydrated, while providing key electrolytes. This product gives you a good amount of sodium and potassium, which are essential for replacing fluids lost through sweat. (2) Sweat rates can vary significantly among individuals, ranging from 0.3–2.4 liters per hour, with an average sodium loss of about one gram per liter of sweat. (3

Research shows that sports drinks containing sodium concentrations between 10–30 millimoles per liter are ideal for optimal absorption and reducing the risk of hyponatremia (low blood sodium levels). (3) When mixed with the recommended 16 oz. of water, Liquid I.V. has a sodium concentration of just over 45 millimoles per liter, making it more concentrated than the typical sports drink.

“It is generally recommended that most endurance athletes consume 300-600 mg/hour of sodium to support some of what’s lost in sweat,” says Chris Mohr, PhD, RD. “This is just a general recommendation and each person is unique, depending on the environment, size of the person, current activity levels, if the athlete is a heavy sweater or not, among others.  But this is a starting range based on the available science.”

In addition, fast-digesting carbohydrates in the form of dextrose and cane sugar can help rehydrate the body faster than water alone. This is because simple sugars enter the bloodstream quickly, which rapidly helps draw water back into your cells. (1) This effect is even more pronounced after physical activity, as the body uses these sugars, which are readily available, to replenish muscle glycogen stores, making Liquid I.V. a powerful post-workout supplement for athletes aiming for rapid recovery.

What makes Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier stand out is that it’s modeled after the World Health Organization’s (WHO) formula for an oral rehydration solution (ORS), meaning it’s scientifically designed with an ideal balance of electrolytes and glucose to help your body absorb fluids more effectively. (4) This formula, designed initially to treat dehydration caused by diarrhea, contained 2.6 grams of sodium chloride, 1.5 grams of potassium chloride, 2.9 grams of trisodium citrate dihydrate, 13.5 grams of glucose, and one liter of water. This provided concentrations of 75 mmol/L of sodium, 65 mmol/L of chloride, 20 mmol/L of potassium, and 75 mmol/L of glucose. (5

For a simpler approach, the WHO also set out guidelines for homemade rehydration solutions, recommending eight level teaspoons of sugar and one level teaspoon of salt added to one liter of water. (6) However, it’s easy to miscalculate these doses without precise measurement, which is why a product like Liquid I.V. may be worth the investment. Also notable are that these data are for rehydrating after diarrhea dehydration, which would be different than active people or athletes. Liquid I.V.’s formula delivers approximately 46 mmol/L of sodium, 20 mmol/L of potassium, and 129 mmol/L of glucose.

Beyond its effectiveness, we also appreciate the convenience that Liquid I.V. delivers. The stick packs are a breeze to use—just toss one in your bag, mix it with water, and you’re good to go. And though we’re not turning to Swifties as our scientific experts, it’s been noticed that many Taylor Swift fans have made Liquid I.V. a key part of their Eras Tour hydration plan to #stayhydrated during the epic three-hour performance. And now we’re left wondering if T Swift did the same.

Whether you’re hitting the gym, going for a hike, or recovering after a long night out at the Eras Tour or beyond, Liquid I.V. can provide a fast and effective way to stay hydrated and replenish essential nutrients. Plus, with a variety of unique flavors—16 in total—staying hydrated has never been so tasty because taste drives choice. (7)

What customers are saying

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier is extremely popular, boasting over 100,000 reviews and a 4.6 out of 5-star rating on Amazon.

“I climbed a small mountain, and Liquid I.V. helped me keep my energy level up and stay hydrated. I felt good the next day too. Worked great and tastes good to me, super easy to use and well worth the price.”

Linda, verified Amazon review

Another Amazon reviewer with username J describes the Tropical Punch flavor. J says, “I recently tried it and was quite impressed. The taste is a pleasant blend of sweet and tangy, with a hint of saltiness, likely from the added electrolytes, making it very refreshing. I find it especially enjoyable after a run to help rehydrate.”

Some reviewers weren’t so fond of the added sugars. Verified buyer KL points out noted, “I was not aware before purchase but this product contains stevia. I saw cane sugar as the first ingredient, and only after purchase did I see leaf extract buried in the ingredients. This not only gives me stomach aches but also tastes funny in my opinion, bummer.”

Why we like Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier Sugar-Free

Liquid I.V.’s sugar-free Hydration Multiplier is crafted for those who want enhanced hydration without the additional calories from the 11 grams of added sugar. With zero sugar, this may be a better choice for those seeking daily electrolyte support without the need for fast-digesting carbohydrates as a source of energy. Even if you’re not sweating profusely, such as during an intense workout, electrolyte supplements like this one can still be beneficial. While they may not be necessary on a daily basis, they can help maintain fluid balance and prevent dehydration on long work days, during travel, or when under the weather.

“Generally speaking, the added carbohydrates are most useful for those who are exercising consistently for more than 60 minutes,” adds Mohr. “Outside of that, most people likely don’t need the added sugar during a workout; however, this is also dependent on what was consumed before the workout.  If it’s the first thing in the morning, that added sugar is exactly what’s needed.”

It’s also great to see that the sugar-free version of Liquid I.V.’s Hydration Multiplier remains free of artificial sweeteners. Instead, it uses all-natural alternatives like allulose and stevia leaf extract to sweeten the product. While stevia is widely known, allulose is a less common sugar substitute that closely mimics the taste of regular sugar without raising blood sugar levels, making it a popular choice in low-carb and keto diets. (8) In fact, it has been shown to actually decrease postprandial sugar levels. Additionally, unlike sugar alcohols that can cause digestive issues like bloating and diarrhea, allulose is generally well-tolerated by most people. “Though it’s always important to try new ingredients or products during training, not on the day of an event,” offers Mohr. “That is a common mistake I’ve seen among so many athletes over the years.” (9)(10) Allulose is found naturally in fruits such as figs, kiwis, and raisins and is less likely to cause digestive discomfort. (11)

Although I haven’t had the opportunity to try every sugar-free flavor, both the White Peach and Raspberry Melon are fantastic. The Raspberry Melon flavor, in particular, has become a go-to for weekend yard work, as it offers a refreshing burst of flavor that keeps me hydrated and energized. Overall, its blend of electrolytes, vitamins, and all-natural ingredients is a great way to stay hydrated without the side effects of artificial sugars that I often feel later on.

What customers are saying

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier Sugar-Free has earned a 4.5 out of 5-star rating on Amazon. Customers enjoy having a lower-calorie and sugar-free alternative to the conventional formula.

“I bought this to increase my intake of water. This has helped me drink more water because it tastes so good! I love the taste of peach and also it’s super low calories. Very refreshing when I put it in the ice cold water.”

EC, verified Amazon reviewer

Verified buyer Doreen C. explains that she’s made Liquid I.V.’s sugar-free Hydration Multiplier a part of her regular routine. “Great flavors. Easy to mix and dissolves quickly. Very happy with the health benefits. Helps solve hydration problems. Will continue purchasing in the future and have made this a daily item in my diet.”

As previously mentioned, the sugar-free Hydration Multiplier does have fewer flavor options than the original. Verified Amazon buyer Robin writes about her experience with the Green Grape flavor, “It’s good but has a weird aftertaste to it, not sure if it’s just this flavor. It is a good product and good ingredients.”

What you should know

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Energy is perfect for a smooth, sustained boost without the jitters. Combining natural caffeine with hydrating electrolytes, it’s an excellent alternative to your morning coffee.

  • This product contains approximately 100 milligrams of caffeine, which is similar to the amount found in a typical eight-ounce cup of drip coffee.
  • At $1.79 per serving, Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Energy is priced in line with other hydration supplement stick packs on the market. It’s also likely a budget-friendly alternative to a coffee from your local cafe.
  • Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Energy is ideal for those seeking a convenient and effective way to get their morning energy and hydration.

Why we like Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Energy

If you enjoy starting your day with a cup of coffee, consider switching things up with Liquid I.V.’s Hydration Multiplier + Energy. Each travel-friendly stick pack delivers approximately 100 milligrams of natural caffeine from coffee fruit extract. This offers the same energy boost as your typical eight-ounce cup of coffee but with added benefits like immune support from vitamin C and vitamins B6 and B12 to support brain function and mental health. (13, 14)

While coffee is often considered a go-to for morning energy, some data suggests high intakes (6 mg/kg) may cause a fluid shift. While other studies have found coffee does not dehydrate a person, it’s important to be cognizant of what you’re putting in your body. (15) This is where Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Energy stands out. It provides that indispensable caffeine kick to jumpstart your day and contains 500 milligrams of sodium and 380 milligrams of potassium—key electrolytes that help you stay hydrated and maintain fluid balance. (3) Additionally, the supplement is packed with a variety of B vitamins, known as some of the best vitamins for energy, particularly if correcting a deficiency—or insufficiency—in said nutrients. This is because B vitamins help convert the food we eat into usable energy by supporting important processes in our body. (15) You get the best of both worlds: energy to power you through your day and hydration to keep you feeling good, though it doesn’t mean adding more B vitamins gives you an added energy jolt, unless correcting for a deficiency.

Liquid I.V. recommends consuming only one stick pack per day of their Hydration Multiplier + Energy supplement for healthy adults. This is likely due to the potential negative effects of caffeine, such as interfering with sleep. To avoid disrupting your sleep patterns, we recommend steering clear of products like Hydration Multiplier + Energy in the afternoon. Even small amounts of caffeine consumed within nine hours of bedtime can impact your ability to fall asleep. (16) Since this product is designed to boost your energy without compromising your rest, using it at the right time is essential to maximizing its benefits.

Regarding flavors, Liquid I.V. went the tropical route for its Hydration Multiplier + Energy, offering exciting options like Mango Tamarind and Yuzu Pineapple.

These refreshing flavors allow you to switch up your morning routine, perfect for those looking to break away from conventional morning beverages like coffee or tea. With its blend of natural caffeine, essential electrolytes, and bold flavors, Liquid I.V.’s Hydration Multiplier + Energy is a solid option for anyone aiming to stay energized and hydrated throughout their day. Additionally, at $1.79 per serving, this option is more affordable than a typical Starbucks order, providing a cost-effective way to get your caffeine fix.

What customers are saying

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Energy is rated 4.6 out of 5 stars on Amazon. Many reviews praise the inclusion of the natural caffeine and the smooth energy boost it provides. Users seem to particularly appreciate the lack of jittery side effects from this product, which are often associated with highly caffeinated energy drinks or pre-workouts.

“Maybe it’s just a placebo effect, but I always feel better after drinking these! I bought them for a trip to Australia to help me rehydrate and stay awake once I landed. I didn’t experience ANY jet lag! They’re also tasty, which helps. I like the flexible packaging too.”.

HR, verified Amazon reviewer

Another review from verified buyer Bill mentions that he found the flavor (Yuzu Pineapple) a little overpowering. “This has a very strong flavor, so strong that I had to use about 1 and a half bottles of water to tone it down a little. The flavor is very good and tastes just like pineapple, but very strong (seems stronger than other flavors). I can’t say that I noticed the caffeine or change in energy. Overall these are OK.”

more than 500 milligrams of vitamin C per serving, which is 560% of your recommended daily allowance. This amount of vitamin C will support a healthy immune system and aid active individuals in managing oxidative stress and reducing recovery time from intense workouts. (17) Of note, more is not always better as too much vitamin C can actually have negative gastrointestinal effects if consumed in too large of a quantity.

  • Many customer reviews highlight the great taste of the Wild Berry and Tangerine flavors, so you’re likely to enjoy whichever you choose.
  • Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Immune Support costs $1.79 per serving, like their Gut Health and Energy supplements. This is on par with other stick-pack hydration supplements on the market.

Why we like Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Immune Support

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Immune Support takes their standard hydration multiplier formula to the next level by incorporating 10.5 milligrams of zinc and 504 milligrams of vitamin C per serving. This enhanced formula makes it an exceptional choice for anyone looking to boost their immune system, and may help prevent or recover from illness.

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Immune Support provides 504 milligrams of vitamin C per serving, 560% of the recommended daily intake. Research shows that this level is more than enough to boost immune function, help prevent illness, and support recovery. (18)

This may also be one of Liquid I.V.s most attractive offers for athletes. The added combination of vitamin C and zinc enhances the product’s appeal, especially for those involved in intense physical activities. Athletes often face high levels of physical stress, compromising their immune system and heightening their vulnerability to infections. (19) This risk is often amplified by their close contact with teammates and coaches and time spent in shared environments like sweaty weight rooms and indoor training facilities.

Supplements containing vitamin C can help strengthen the immune system, play a key role in illness prevention, and aid in faster recovery if an athlete becomes sick. (16) Additionally, vitamin C’s antioxidant properties can help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation caused by intense exercise. Although clinical research has shown mixed results, some evidence shows that vitamin C supplementation may help minimize muscle damage and accelerate recovery, allowing athletes to bounce back quickly after demanding workouts. (17)

“Of course it’s important to keep in mind these products, along with any others out there on the market, should really be complements and be additive to a balanced lifestyle with a variety of quality, nutrient-dense foods, exercise and recovery strategies, and sleep,” adds Mohr.

Furthermore, the addition of zinc in this product complements the benefits of vitamin C, as it plays a role in immune cell function and repair. (19) Together, these components make Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Immune Support a powerful ally for both athletes and the average Joe’s looking to maintain their overall health.

What customers are saying

With over 24,000 reviews on Amazon and an impressive 4.7 out of 5-star rating, it’s clear that consumers are big fans of Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Immune Support. Reviewers consistently praise its great taste, easy mixability, and the noticeable immune boost this product delivers.

“Our whole family are big fans of Liquid IV. We’ve bought every single flavor. Tangerine is one of my Personal favorites (along with lemon lime). But absolutely love that now it has immune support. Liquid IV tastes best nice and cold, with a lot of ice- in my personal opinion. It’s easy to shake the bottle and mix the powder, dissolving it quite nicely. It doesn’t smell bad out of the packet (as others products may smell too “vitaminy”). I think it’s a good quality product with and it helps me drink a lot more water throughout the day.”

Mr. Miller, verified Amazon reviewer

Verified buyer Dee is also a fan of this product, saying it helps him deal with the hot California heat. “I use Liquid I.V. as part of my hydration throughout my day. For the past 2 months here in California, the temperature has hit over 100 degrees for most of the summer. I use two packets for a 32 oz. water bottle. I can say it has really helped in those situations where you are out in the elements for a long time and need to drink fluids. I usually fill up my four 30 oz. bottles and have one with Liquid I.V. that I sip throughout my day along with my regular water bottles. I tried other brands and I keep coming back to this brand for its electrolyte content and the overall mix and taste.”

What you should know

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Gut Health is a unique combination supplement that provides rapid hydration and supports digestive health with the inclusion of probiotics.

  • Probiotics like those in Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Gut Health may support healthy digestive issues like reducing bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. (23) They may also contribute to overall well-being by enhancing gut health, which is closely linked to mental health and the immune system. (23)
  • Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Gut Health costs $1.79 per packet. This gives consumers decent value, as other probiotic supplements may not contain the added vitamins and mineral electrolytes.

Why we like Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Gut Health

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Gut Health merges the benefits of electrolytes, vitamins, and probiotics, making it a potential solution for those seeking improved gut health.

The standout feature of Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Gut Health is its inclusion of 1 billion CFUs of probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that are crucial in maintaining a healthy gut microbiome, which is essential for overall digestive health.

Bacillus coagulans, the strain of probiotic in BC30, are “good” bacteria that help keep the overall balance of your gut flora in check. (21) This is important because lifestyle factors like a poor diet, stress, or antibiotic use can disrupt your gut microbiome. (24

Additionally, Bacillus coagulans is particularly notable for its resilience, as it can survive the acidic environment of the digestive tract and reach the intestines, where it can enhance nutrient absorption and potentially decrease the risk of bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. (23

However, relying on a single probiotic strain may limit the range of digestive benefits Liquid I.V. + Gut Health provides. A more diverse probiotic blend could provide broader gut health support by addressing multiple areas of digestive balance and overall microbial diversity. (22)

“It’s estimated that the human body has 10-100 trillion microbial cells,” Mohr says.  (27)  “The more the variety, the better keeping in mind that even 1 billion, while seemingly a lot, is a very small number in the grand scheme of the human body, like a mere eye dropper of water in the ocean.”

In addition to the probiotic benefits, Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Gut Health’s innovative formula delivers rapid and effective hydration. The product’s electrolyte blend helps replenish fluids and electrolytes lost during travel, workouts, or daily activity. This ensures that your body stays hydrated and functions optimally, essential for maintaining energy levels and supporting overall health.

Priced at $1.79 per serving, this product offers excellent value by combining these two important benefits in a single, convenient packet. This affordability makes this supplement accessible for daily use, offering a practical solution to both your gut health and hydration needs.

What customers are saying

On Amazon, Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Gut Health holds a solid rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars. While many users appreciate the probiotic benefits, opinions on the singular Tart Green Apple flavor are mixed.

“I like Liquid I.V. I drink it almost daily. The apple tastes kind of like a green Jolly Rancher but not as sour. I’m not a big fan of this flavor, but I like the included probiotic.”

Danielle, verified Amazon reviewer

On the other hand, reviewer MB writes, “I absolutely LOVE this one! It’s a great balance of two areas I need to focus on. I love the taste because the green apple balances the flavor. This is actually my favorite drink. I carry several packets in my purse and have them very helpful when my days get so busy I miss a meal or realize I haven’t had anything to drink. It helps for low sugar too!

I also love the added vitamins, it’s a great product!”

Why we like Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Sleep

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Sleep is a multifaceted supplement that merges powerful hydration with a calming sleep aid. It’s the perfect solution for anyone who needs to recharge quickly before bed. Whether you’re an athlete powering through multi-day tournaments, a traveler adapting to a new time zone, or prepping for an early morning adventure like a long hike, this dual-action formula has you covered.

What sets this product apart from other Liquid I.V. options is its blend of sleep-promoting ingredients, including melatonin, as well as the lack of caffeine (which can help aid in better sleep) and inclusions of B vitamins like B1 and B3 that support energy metabolism and are featured in other Liquid IV products. (14) Melatonin helps regulate your internal body clock, also known as the sleep-wake cycle, and may help you fall asleep faster and enjoy a deeper, more restful sleep. (28) Additionally, at a moderate dose of three milligrams, it should provide the benefits of improved sleep without the risk of lingering drowsiness the following day. (29

Besides melatonin, Liquid I.V. ‘s sleep blend also includes L-theanine and valerian root, which some data suggests helps reduce anxiety and promote relaxation before bed. (30)(31) This combination of ingredients has the potential to enhance your sleep quality, and its convenient single-serving packaging significantly makes it effortless to incorporate into your nightly routine.

One thing to note is that the supplement does have a pronounced floral flavor from the lavender. While it wasn’t my favorite, it’s still manageable and I simply drank it down quickly before bed. Others may of course enjoy the flavor.

What customers are saying

The reviews on Amazon regarding Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier + Sleep are pretty mixed. While the majority of consumers agree the product helps them relax and fall asleep, there are a lot of negative comments regarding the taste.

“I have a very hard time turning my mind off at night. This helps me relax and fall asleep and wake up with no side effects. The taste is disgusting. I literally just have to chug it but it is worth it to me. The only reason I gave four stars is because of the taste.”

Allen, verified reviewer

Another Amazon reviewer Christian Z. agrees with Allen saying, “I have been looking for a natural way to relax and fall asleep. I like how this product works and turns off the stress of a hectic day away and within 1 hr I’m sleeping….but the smell and the taste of the product are strong. Not too good mixed with water. I’m taking it with juice or herbal tea. The packets are not easy to open and the 1st time I made a mess since the product is very fine and it makes a cloud of smelly powder when serving.”

Why we like Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier Kids

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier Kids is tailored specifically to meet the hydration needs of young children. Recognizing that kids have different nutritional needs than adults, this version offers a milder yet effective solution for keeping kids hydrated, especially during sports, outdoor activities, or periods of illness.

The formula contains the same sodium, potassium, B vitamins, and vitamin C as the adult version, just in half the amount, which is more appropriate for a child’s smaller body. This ensures that children will still receive hydration support without excess vitamins overwhelming their system. Additionally, the sugar content is also reduced to six grams, helping to replenish energy levels when needed.

“Of note, some kids may require or benefit from higher amounts of added sugar, during activity, depending on their current fitness and activity level, as well as their particular sport or activity and duration of play,” says Mohr. “Added sugar can play a positive role in athletics.”

The flavors are also crafted with young taste buds in mind, including childhood classics like Crisp Apple, Tropical Punch, Concord Grape, and Cotton Candy. They are also free of artificial ingredients. This makes the supplement more appealing to children and aligns with the decisions many parents make for their families.

As children grow and their activity levels increase, there may come a time when switching to the adult version of Liquid I.V. becomes appropriate. This is often suitable for active kids around ages 12–14, depending on their size, physical activity level, and the climate or environment they’re in (especially in hotter climates, where replenishment is even more important). This is especially important for young athletes involved in intense sports or long training sessions, where the adult version’s higher electrolyte concentration might better meet their needs. It’s also a good idea to consult your child’s health care provider for personalized advice on which product is best for them.

What customers are saying

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier Kids is a popular product among parents with active children. With a 4.4 out of 5 star rating on Amazon, it’s safe to say this supplement is parent-approved.

“My kids are obsessed with apple juice but there’s so much sugar in the store bought ones. With the weather warming up these are perfect for them. It gives them a little energy boost, and it also dissolves easily. It’s a little pricey but my kids drink it when we are out at the ball field.”

Andrea, Amazon reviewer

Angela W. , another verified reviewer, purchased the cotton candy flavor for her nephew. “I got this for my nephew because he thinks water is ‘boring’ and it’s always a struggle to keep him hydrated. I got these because he loves cotton candy. I was worried because sometimes liquid IV can be super concentrated tasting and overly sweet but this was actually quite nice. It’s not cloyingly sweet, dissolves well, and best of all it got this kid hydrating.”

What is Liquid I.V. and how does it work?

Liquid I.V. is a popular electrolyte powder supplement designed to enhance hydration through a combination of key vitamins, minerals, and sugar. The brand claims that its products can help you rehydrate faster than water alone, and scientific research backs this up.

A study published in Nutrients highlights that a beverage’s electrolyte content, specifically the amount of sodium, is crucial for effective hydration. (32) This is because sodium improves fluid retention, especially after significant electrolyte loss, which can occur during intense exercise or when working out in hot or humid conditions. (33) For this reason, Liquid I.V.’s Hydration Multiplier was designed with 500 milligrams of sodium and 370 milligrams of potassium per serving. Sodium intake is recommended at 2300mg/day for adults and 1500m,g/day for children on average, therefore supplementing with this amount can help bring daily intake up or replenish what was lost in activity (which then increases the need above daily recommended limits).

The study also notes that a fast-digesting carb source, like the sugar found in Liquid I.V.’s Hydration Multiplier, further aids in restoring fluid balance and enhancing recovery. The sugar replenishes muscle glycogen lost during physical activity, which helps draw water back into the muscles. (1) This is why Liquid I.V.’s Hydration Multiplier formula works well as an intra-workout, or post-workout hydration supplement for athletes.

On the other hand, for individuals not engaged in physical activity or those simply looking to avoid extra calories, Liquid I.V. offers a sugar-free version sweetened with allulose and stevia leaf extract. If you’re not working out and therefore not depleting your muscle glycogen stores, then the added sugar is not necessary for optimal hydration.

Additionally, some Liquid I.V. products are fortified with a few B vitamins like niacin, pantothenic acid, B6, and B12 for a natural energy boost and a dose of vitamin C intake to support immune health. (34) These products are also vegan, gluten-free, and non-GMO, making them a versatile hydration solution suitable for various dietary preferences.

Side effects of Liquid IV

Liquid I.V. is generally a safe and effective supplement when used as directed. However, like any supplement, it can have potential side effects if consumed in excessive amounts. One of the key ingredients in Liquid I.V. is sodium, which plays a crucial role in hydration but can be problematic for individuals on a low-sodium diet or those with conditions such as high blood pressure or kidney disease. Excessive sodium intake can lead to issues like water retention, elevated blood pressure, and additional strain on the kidneys, though the target audience for these products is not those with kidney disease or hypertension, and instead, active individuals who may benefit from the additional electrolyte support. (34)

For most people, using Liquid I.V. as recommended poses no risk and can be a valuable tool for maintaining hydration. However, it’s important to consider your individual health needs and consult with a healthcare provider if you have any concerns, especially if you have existing health conditions that may be affected by increased sodium intake.

How much does Liquid I.V. cost?

Liquid I.V.’s Hydration Multiplier costs $24.99 for a 16-serving pack, which is $1.56 per serving.

The other versions of the original Hydration Multiplier formula are priced slightly higher:

  • Hydration Multiplier Sugar-Free: $25.99 for 14 servings ($1.86 per stick)
  • Hydration Multiplier + Energy: $24.99 for 14 servings ($1.79 per stick)
  • Hydration Multiplier + Immune Support: $24.99 for 14 servings ($1.79 per stick)
  • Hydration Multiplier + Gut Health: $24.99 for 14 servings ($1.79 per stick)
  • Hydration Multiplier + Sleep: $23.99 for 10 servings ($2.40 per stick)
  • Hydration Multiplier for Kids: $11.70 for eight servings ($1.46 per stick)

This pricing falls in line with other stick-packet hydration supplements. For instance, LMNT, another popular hydration powder, costs $45 for a 30-pack, which comes out to $1.50 per serving.

FAQs

Is Liquid I.V. actually good for you?

Yes, if you’re looking for a hydration supplement, Liquid I.V. is a solid choice, offering various options to suit different needs. However, as with any supplement, it’s important to use it as directed and consider your individual health and lifestyle. If you’re not engaging in intense physical activity or sweating heavily, you may not need a hydration supplement, particularly one with added sugar. It’s always best to assess your personal needs alongside your medical provider before incorporating any supplement into your routine.

Is Liquid I.V. better than Gatorade?

Whether Liquid I.V. is better than Gatorade depends on your specific needs and preferences. For instance, certain consumers may prefer Liquid I.V. because it’s free from artificial colors found in traditional Gatorade products. Additionally, Liquid I.V.’s Hydration Multiplier contains about three times the sodium and seven times the potassium found in a standard 12-ounce Gatorade, making it a more potent choice for electrolyte replenishment. However, Gatorade might be a better choice as a pre-workout option or during prolonged physical activity, since it contains roughly twice the sugar, offering a quick energy boost from the quick-absorbing carbohydrates. (35) Further, there are Gatorade products with higher levels of electrolytes as well to meet the needs of those who may need it, so one isn’t inherently better than the other.

Is Liquid I.V. good for hangovers?

Hangover symptoms are often caused by dehydration and electrolyte imbalances from excessive alcohol consumption. Liquid I.V. may help relieve these symptoms because it’s designed to tackle these problems directly. Liquid I.V. may help restore your body’s electrolyte balance and enhance fluid retention with its high concentration of electrolytes, such as sodium and potassium. Plus, it includes essential vitamins, like B vitamins and vitamin C, to replenish nutrients that alcohol may have depleted.
